ÇUBUKÇU HAN-HOLSTEIN HAN-FOSCOLO APARTS
The strengthening, renovation and finishing works of Çubukçu Han, which will serve as a hotel under the name Casa Foscolo, are carried out by Siska AŞ. The historical building, which has been re-functioned according to the principles of the Regional Board for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture, will serve the tourism sector with 18 accommodation rooms, art galleries and workshop spaces.
The building, which is listed as “Apparts Foscolo” on Goad maps and “Holstein Inn” on Pervititch Maps, was built between 1890 and 1900. The first owner of the inn, located in Beyoğlu Asmalımescit General Yazgan Street, was the Venetian Foscolo family.
The Foscolo company, which was engaged in maritime trade, was founded in 1865 and was operating in Çinili Han in Galata. Foscolo Han was built as an apart hotel to provide accommodation services.
When the building was sold to the German Holstein family in 1930, the ground floor was turned into a restaurant and the upper floors were turned into workplaces. There was also a tailor shop on the ground floor, which was the profession of the Holstein family.
The building changed hands again in 1950 and became known as “Çubukçu Han” after the surname of its owner.
Çubukçu Han, whose facade has neo-classical elements, is a 7-storey building with a basement and a terrace. The Yemenici Abdüllatif Street façade of the voltatile masonry building, with limestone cladding over blended brick on its façade, is made of plaster and paint over blended brick. Window jambs and crowns are designed differently on each floor.
