MERKEZ RIHTIM HAN
Merkez Rıhtım Han the architect of the building on Karaköy Kemankeş Caddesi dating to the early 1912s is unknown.
The passenger hall was built in 1900 as the main building of the embankment and later served as the Naval Hospital and post office until 1980’s.
In order to continue the contribution of the Merkez Rıhtım Han building to its surroundings, which are included in the protection, restoration, and new use projects, priority was given to the continuation and enhancement of the value of this region within the Istanbul city skyline.
Being restored to function as part of a hotel, Merkez Rıhtım Han will participate in the city life and it will no longer be a single-use building within the scope of this project.
As per the building plans derived in 1912, the exterior shape, height and width, original construction elements, coverings, entrance gates, components of the structural system, the materials and details are all primarily protected.
Only certain elements in the interior layouts have been changed to serve the new function as hotel rooms.
